IB Diploma Programme
Requirements and Assessments
Earning an IB Diploma is the primary objective of the student's two-year course of study in the Diploma Programme.  In order to do so, each DP student must successfully complete 6 Diploma Programme content courses across the student's curriculum and the Diploma Programme core requirements.

Diploma Programme Courses:
DP course results are determined by the results of student conduct on…

External Assessments
  • Exams taken during May of final year of course
  • Other written and project tasks determined by specific courses
  • Sent to IB examiners around the world to be "externally assessed"
  • Moderated (re-scored) by additional examiners to assure quality control

Internal Assessments
  • Assignments and assessment criteria set by the IBO
  • Work done over time, giving student added control over quality
  • Works submitted by students and “Internally Assessed” by teacher
  • Samples of assessed work sent to IB for moderation
  • Usually comprised approximately 20-25% of student’s IB grade

Each DP courses will be awarded an IB Grade
  • Final IB grade for the course will be determined by combining all internal and external assessment scores (each component comprising a certain percentage of IB grade)
  • IB grades range from 1-7, with “4” considered “passing”
  • Awarding of IB Diploma is contingent upon aggregate of scores from all IB exams.  For specific requirements and contingencies, see Awarding of the IB Diploma.
